Varietal:
Hanepoot (Muscat d’Alexandrie)
Vineyard:
Old bush vines planted before 1900.
Farm History:
The farm Gevonden was first proclaimed in the 1700’s and today is owned by the Boonzaaier family, the 6th generation of this clan to farm these Breedekloof soils. Some of the first Hanepoot grapes were planted as early as 1880. But more specifically, we still make our beautiful Daschbosch Hanepoot from the vines that were planted in the year 1900. The Boonzaaiers even established a small cellar back in the 1900’s in which they made their own Hanepoot wine on a very small scale. The vineyard and the culture of Hanepoot on Gevonden is thus 118 years old, and we are proud to relive this part of vinous history.
Soil:
Dundee
Winemaking:
Grapes were picked at 28° Balling and fermented on the skins for 24 hours. After pressing the juice was fortified with wine spirits. Aged in old barrels for 12 months.
