Duncan Savage is an affable guy. Effortlessly cool, the surfer in him permeates the inner-city cellar in Salt River that forms the heart of his operations.
Set in an industrial area, it doesn’t look like a traditional cellar and yet the wines are some of South Africa’s finest from some of our most exciting sites and vines.
Duncan, who was born in Pretoria has a particular affinity for KwaZulu-Natal. He says he gets nostalgic about the place and its vibe. They moved around a lot: from Johannesburg to Kimberley and then to KwaZulu-Natal, and they eventually ended up in Rondebosch, where his parents still live. He attended Rondebosch Boys High and went on study for a B-Com degree, which did not stick.
