Thorne and Daughters Wines

Many years spent travelling and working with wine all over the world has given John and Tasha a great appreciation for the gift of their home soil. A nudge in the right direction by some good friends saw the start of Thorne and Daughters wines and the maiden 2013 wines. Sourcing grapes for the wines has been a great journey and we are extremely privileged to work with the people that allow us to produce our wines. It is our great purpose to honestly and accurately reflect the work of our growers and our vineyards as sensitively as possible.

The Winemaker

Having spent nearly a decade travelling the world and working in the UK, France, California and Australia, John and his wife Tasha returned to South Africa in 2009. By 2013 John had a clearer vision of the kind of South African wines that he wanted to produce, and started producing Thorne and Daughters from a small handful of vineyards dotted around the Cape. John strives to do as little as possible in the cellar, while still staying true to a straight, clean aesthetic in the wines. He is ably supported by his wife Tasha who ensures that everything around the wines is as beautiful as what’s in the bottle.

Paper Kite is produced from an old vine Semillon block planted in 1965 in the Swartland. Our wine making for this is extremely simple and rigorous.
